I made this artwork right after separating from my husband of 17 years. From my grief a figure emerged, she is strong and radiant because of her scars.
I believe she stands as a reminder to own all of our experiences as they make us more interesting and more beautiful.
Medium: Oil pastel marks overlayed with an ink wash, followed by a rough layer of white paint, sanded back to reveal a textured surface. I then drew the figure in charcoal, and finished with a bright background of orange oil, and drew the sun with my fingers through the wet paint.
